Mayumi Heene confirmed to authorities that the boy-in-runaway balloon stunt back in October was, in fact, a stunt.
Fort Collins Coloradan:
“Richard and I agreed to it, so it was mutual,” Mayumi Heene told Heffernan after she was told she failed a lie detector test she willingly took.

At another point in the interview she told Heffernan, “Initially, we wanted to make it a Monday, but didn’t get (the balloon) finished. The kids were out of school so we thought that was perfect.”
She also told Heffernan about financial motivations to try and gain a more marketable image.
“We tried working so hard to make money to survive. It’s a shame to come up with this idea. This was something that could take me, take us to the point we wanted to be at.”
I'm certain that by "getting in the news", RDF Media sure as heck didn't mean "act like you put your own son in danger, and lie about it", Heenes. And what's worse is, what happens the next time they need emergency services to come get their kid(s) out of actual danger? Here's a thought: how about not putting yourselves and your kids on TV? I mean, look how well that's turned out for Jon and Kate, those two narcissists...Mayumi Heene told Heffernan the family was told by production company RDF Media that “if you guys get in the news or get more like a popularity sort of, we are able to sell you guys.” --Nate Taylor & Trevor Hughes, 1/22/2010
