12:10pm EST officially closed the Donnie Simpson era at CBS Radio's WPGC-FM, as the longtime morning man made, in my opinion, one of the classiest exits from a radio station ever. Not one bitter word spoken by him. Great job.
I, however, am not in such capacity. I think this was yet another example of the total failure of management at CBS Radio, a unit that has done little right since December 2005 (read up on Free FM, people). I don't have the exact quotes that Steve Harvey made during his appearance on the phone at around 8:30am, but I actually agree with his sentiments. When I can get the quote, I'll post another item expanding on that thought. But what he did say, I agreed with 100%. It was something about how CBS Radio was making a mistake by meddling with talent like Simpson, and trying to tweak formats in the name of chasing ratings...you know, just like Tom Petty talked about in "The Last DJ".
Anyway, Simpson will be missed for the year he's not on the air. But as for the station he just departed from?
No disrespect to the air talent over there, but...and this is just my opinion, now...the days of that format on that station are numbered, and you can bet that CBS is already moving forward with plans for another format for that station. Start the clock.
